So it looks like I'm going to be liquidating some of my old music making gear to get some more money for miniatures. You know, the few hundred bucks (according to ebay) worth of synthesizers and stuff I have cluttering up my closet? I'm keeping a few absolute essentials, but I'm unloading any of the modules that are either not unique enough or not likely to get used. The hard part is going to be finnding a buyer for my "MOTM" modular synthesizer modules. I never got enough of them to really make a stand alone modular synthesizer, and I've only built around 2/3 of the kits, but even if you assume that I resell the kits at 75% and the built ones for the cost of the kits, I'm still sitting on a grand or more. The trick is finding a buyer who both wants that stuff and has that much money.
At any rate, I'll use the proceeds from the MOTM stuff for credit cards, and the rest for new miniatures!
My current thinking is that Full Thrust is where I should focus my efforts. Both Christy and Jake seem to enjoy it, and for around $80US, I can get two pretty complete fleets from GZG. Or at least enough ships to do all the gaming I'm likely to do. The packs contain a few capital ships, a handfull of cruisers and some escort craft. The only thing they don't have are carriers and fighters, but that can be a project for a different year.
My other FT option is to scratch-build some ships, but given that time is my most limited resource, I think the GZG ships are my best bet to get some figures I can use almost immediately. I plan to base coat them in a solid color, "wash" them with black ink, then dry brush the details back in. I may hit some of the details with metalic paint to make things interesting. I should be able to do pretty much all of the ships in one sitting. I'll focus on the "2 cruisers and 3 frigates" set that we've been using to get used to the rules, in case I'm being optimistic about how long it will take.
And don't worry, I haven't forgotten about my other projects! Since this project is probably a month or more away, I should have plenty of time to get my 28mm guys into better shape. <knock on wood.>
