Well, I'm about 1/2 way done with my "away team" figures. That's 3 red shirts, a blue shirt science officer/medic and a yellow shirt commander. I still have the detail work to do (straps, phasers, eyes) and I'm not happy about the yellow color I'm using, but they're looking pretty good. Not museum-quality of course, but they'll reach a decent "wargames standard" level by the time I'm finished. I'm sticking with TOS style uniform colors because I like them better, even though the figures could pass for TNG.
I'm still thinking about how best to represent them in 5150. Phasers are crazy powerful weapons, but don't appear to be so useful when armor is involved. Plus, the three settings of "stun, burn, disintegrate" are interesting. I think the right "game" way to do it would be to make the "burn" setting equivalent to a laser blast in the game, the "stun" setting just Knock Down the opponent (which might make them stay down!), and the "disintegrate" would do what it says against an unarmored opponent, but make the phaser go out of ammo.
As for the starship, which is the Federation's biggest asset, I think allowing reinforcements to appear anywhere on the board and allowing nearly instant extractions is a good start. I'm also thinking of orbital phaser strikes (maybe a 12" radius area of effect?), but that might be too unbalancing.
