So with a little left over holiday money, I ordered some more Spugs and Hydrissians from Rattlehead Games. (A brilliant online vendor btw - highly recommended.)
The Spugs army list for Chain Reaction has them organized into squads of 6-10 spugs, with 1 leader, 1 "firepower" trooper (carrying a combo flame thrower/missile launcher), and the rest riflemen. Each Cell (Spuggy platoon) has 3 of these squads, and a command group with an Alpha drone, sniper, comms specialist and a crew served weapon of some sort.
I also have a "Spugnaught", which is a heavily armored Spug "mech" power armor trooper. Usually, one is attached to each platoon, so he will be available as a platoon resource as necessary.
The Spug sculptor hasn't released the crew served weapon or the sniper yet, and I already have two basic 6-spug squads, so I bought 8 more spugs to fill out my squads and the Alpha Drone. That will leave me with needing one more squad and the crew served weapon when it's available to be able to field a complete Spug firepower platoon.
My Hydrissian platoon is also getting some reinforcements. I have one squad right now, and another one in the mail. 'Driss platoons are 3 squads also, but each squad is only 2-5 figures. The 'driss aren't as numerous, but carry some fearsome weapons.
'Driss also have powered armor, but they deploy them in squads of 3, with one squad per company. (3 platoons + 1 power armor squad per company) So these guys won't be available unless the whole company's resources are available. And because the figures are pretty pricey relative to normal troopers, I'm holding off on getting any yet. (They're not too expensive for what they are, they're just more than I have available at the moment.)
So, my xenoforces are getting pretty plump. When I combine them with some "bugs" (GW Tyrannids), I should have a whole lot of gaming potential, in solo, h2h and co-op modes. (One of the nice things about Chain Reaction is that due to the reaction system you can play solo or co-op with ease. So two people can try to clear an area of an alien bug infestation, for example. The Tyrannids are perfect enemies for this task.)
For my humans, I have a small Viridian task force (think "Colonial Marines" from Aliens) that's basically analogous to the Spug force I'm building up. I also have a number of GW's Space Marines that I plan to press into service.
This is not to say that I've abandoned my Andalusians! They're still the top project on my list, and they're coming along nicely, though slowly. But I haven't forgotten about my scifi stuff. So many games, so little time.
