So last night, having no Uruks to paint, I got my Berbers out of their box and started working.
I've had good success painting just 2-3 figures a night, so I'm taking that approach to my WAB armies. The problem is, units in WAB are in the 16-24 man range, so psychologically it's hard for me to get going on them. I think just grabbing a few each week and painting them might get me "back in the game", so to speak, and help me deal with the demoralization of having almost 100 figures to paint. (And that's only the Andalusians! Let's not forget the Vikings and Greeks....)
I spent most of the evening working on the Imam (religious leader) figure. He's the guy in the picture with the book. I opted to do him in a black robe instead of a white one, and he looks pretty good. Using the shading and layering techniques I practiced with the Uruks is working out pretty well.
I also tried a new technique on the flesh - paint in Reaper's "Tanned Skin", wash with brown ink, then re-highlight with tanned skin. The results are subtle, but look more natural than just painting on tanned skin. I've gone back to do this to my berber spearmen, and I like the effect, though I'm not sure it's dark enough for berbers. I'll be using it on my Andalusians for sure though.
At any rate, I'm hoping to get further on my command group this evening. I'll be out of pocket this weekend (going to MilleniumCon, yay!), so I probably won't get those guys finished this week.
