Well, not really bad bad, but let me set it up:

I picked up 32 Roman Triarii figures at the recent convention.  These guys are made by Old Glory, who's currently running a 40% off deal.  (That's right 40%!)  OG already has the least expensive figures on the market, and at 40% off, they're a total steal.  And the sale ends in about a week.  I got the Triarii for about 5 bucks below the discounted cost, so I definitely came out ahead, price wise.

As this is going on, the Warhammer guys are just now releasing a "Punic Wars" supplement (that's Hannibal vs. Romans).  It's getting rave reviews, and that period is one of my favorites.  It was my first ancients period, and I have couple DBA armies (15mm) from that war.  And now, I have a bag full of Triarii, who are the "third rank" Roman troops used in that war.

You can probably see where this is going.  I'm now planning on getting 4 more bags of figures. Gotta have the Hastati, Principes and Velites to go with the Triarii, and at least a moderate cavalry force, right?  By the time I get this order ready, my $15 deal will cost me an additional $80 or so, and suddenly I'm in for around $100 for an army I hadn't planned to get!

Now don't get me wrong.  I really like the Republican Roman army, with it's crazy manipular formations and three rank field deployments.  My sympathies lie with Carthage and their Spaniard allies of course, but I haven't found any decent Spanish figures for this period yet.  But as anyone who reads this blog knows, I'm hip deep in other projects.  I still have my Chain Reaction aliens and humans, some 40k Space Marines and 'Nids, The Fellowship, a bunch of Moria denizens, a whole boatload of Vikings, and last but certainly not least, my beloved Andalusians.  Oh yeah, and a bunch of Greek Hoplites

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to "flesh out" the army though.  This deal really can't be beat, and life is (theoretically) long.  I know some guys at the club are very interested in Punic wars, so if I get my stuff together, I'll have plenty of opponents.

The good news is, I'm highly motivated to get painting at the moment. :-)
