The other night, much to my surprise, my wife asked me to teach her how to play warhammer.
She's not a big fan of complicated games since she doesn't like to read rulebooks and army lists, but the basic Warhammer rules are pretty straight forward, and I'd like to have someone sympathetic to try out some tactics with for my upcoming campaign. (Actually, she's a ridiculously lucky dice roller, and has a good head for tactics, so generally she kicks my ass when we play wargames.)
To keep it simple, I just grabbed a few units of Vikings. We each had 2 units of 15 men - quite a small battle, but I wanted to teach her the flow of the combat system.
Well to make a not very long story short, she picked up the system without much trouble, and claimed to see "promise" in the game. I think she's just trying to be supportive and help me practice for my tournament, but hey, I'll take a "sympathy game". :-)
At her suggestion, we'll try a "real" battle next time, with me using my Andalusians, and her getting an equivalent point value of vikings. She's not very interested in vikings because they're a little boring tactically, but at least she won't have a lot of rules to remember.
I'll have to equip her with some fun "toys", like a berserker or two and some bondir archers, since my combined arms Andalusians are likely to give her some trouble.
Then again, Vikings cause fear in all of my troops, so I'll have to learn to be very careful. Especially since I'll be facing Vikings in the campaign. Should be fun.
I didn't get ANY painting done over the holidays, though I had lots of time to play with the kids and do "family stuff", so I guess that was good. But I'll need to dive into the painting in a big way over the next week or two, since our first campaign battles are coming up soon.
