So, it seems I'm in charge of a small Northern Spanish province, circa 1000ad. Like most wargaming campaigns, this one takes on a small amount of role playing, and I'm playing a fairly minor Andalusian Amir (prince, name to be determined), who after proving himself in battle has been given a charter to go adventuring abroad in hopes of expanding the influence of his patron. (I.E., to forceably coerce our neighbors into paying us tax and tribute money - the favorite passtime of nobles during the Dark and Middle ages.)
I know there is one other Andalusian Amir looking to increase his Taifa's holdings in the North, and rumor has it that there is a sizeable Almoravid force marching in from Africa, so Al Andalus might become a pretty hot zone. The border Christian kingdoms appear to be largely undefended at the moment, but those Norman Franks are a misguided bunch of power hungry barbarians, so I expect that if they don't get bogged down fighting each other and the Vikings, one of them will get the bright idea to move South to recapture Aragon. I'm not sure if I want to be the one guarding the Iberian border when they do.
(In other words, we start with small 300pts and 1 territory, our armies must have no uncommon troops and one character. Each territory controlled will give you 150 more pts per year to spend on replacements and new forces. Each year is separated into 4 seasons, and 3 of those are "campaigning" seasons. At some point during the campaign, we'll be allowed to recruit new leaders and hire mercenaries. These new leaders can lead separate "task forces", or join up to form a grand army. Strangely, the campaign GM has put me in charge of a province that was never under Moorish control, but we'll ignore that fact since this campaign is a "fantasy" campaign.)
