Alpha Forge is a relatively new miniatures manufacturer who is doing a lot of creative work in the scifi miniatures market. I already have a number of their Hydrissian figures, and I've been very impressed with the level of detail and artistry of those figures. I definitely plan to get more Hydrissians as time goes on.
Alpha Forge has somewhat recently released a new game called "Star Mogul", which is sort of their take on the old GW game Gorkamorka. You take the roll of a salvage crew on an alien relic planet trying to scavenge as much stuff as possible while keeping your opponent from doing the same. The look is somewhat "Firefly meets Soldier", but the game seems interesting enough.
Now, a big part of me doesn't want to buy more figures of any sort before I get more of my other projects done, and another part doesn't want to pay the big bucks it would cost to get two salvage crews (actually, it would wipe out my budget for the 1/2 year), but another part of me sees the army deals on the AF website, and lusts mightily over them. In particular, they have the huge salvage droid that looks like a cross between an Invid and a Gorilla. But these guys aren't cheap! In fact if I have one complaint about AF, it's that the figures are quite expensive - in the GW price range. They're probably of a similar or maybe better quality, and they're all metal instead of plastic, but it's still a bit rich for my blood.
So I probably won't get into Star Mogul. I'm considering getting the PDF rules, but in all honesty I'll probably not be playing the game, so I should save my money. As finances permit, I might have to pick up some of their salvage teams and 'bots though. With the new Chain Reaction, 5150 game only a few months away, you can never have too many scifi figures. :-)
